Funding
The Department of Information Services (DIS) is the state administering agency for the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) grants. The NCHIP grant program is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). It provides funding to states to improve the nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information.
Each year BJS publishes a solicitation for NCHIP funding. As the state administering agency, DIS will adhere to the following process for submitting the Washington State proposal.
1. Distribute a solicitation to eligible state and local agencies calling for grant proposals;Typically, BJS publishes the solicitation in November and completed state applications must be submitted in January. The Board will review and approve the proposals for final submission to BJS at the meeting before the grant application due date.
2. Prepare summary information for review and prioritizing by the JIN Board; and
3. Combine the selected grant applications for submission as a single grant application to BJS.
